Shakespeare was brilliant

Upon a fort night I was channel surfing and discovered free movies through the local cable service. I came across Kenneth Charles Branagh’s 1993 rendition of Much ado about nothing. The one fact you need to know about any Shakespearean adaptation is this. You may remove any lines you wish, and you may insert any actions you desire, but you can NEVER add dialog to the completed works. Let’s touch upon that for just a moment. Compare that rule now with your life. You can act in any manor it pleases you. You can say whatever you want when you want. But once those words are uttered from your lips, you cannot take them back. You have written that moment in time. Be careful how you choose your words, especially the hateful ones.

As I was swooning over the hollywood male hotness [it was an all star hotness review I swear look up the cast!], a scene between Benedick and Beatrice moved me. The exact quote by him was this…

“Serve God, love me, and mend”

Much ado is believed to have been written in the late 1500’s. Do you think in the 1500’s there was such a segregation between God and it’s people as there is today? Notice I use the wording it’s? The divine is neither male nor female. Balance remember? Balance my young squire. Still it must make you wonder, doesn’t it? The unity..hmm

Serve GOD

Love ME

And MEND
