Ode to Virgil
The human spirit and body is an amazing thing. Recently a very dear soul departed this earth. He was only dear to me in a sense because I was not blood to this man nor was I subjected to his lifes drama. Which included his children and his grand children. The point of this story is this.
Last week Virgil died twice. The hospital resuscitated him both times. After he was lucid it was agreed he would wear a DNR bracelet so that the next time it happened the family would let him go. Knowing there was less than a week left before a very important legal battle was over for him, Virgil hung on. This was no accident, this was no coincidence. After midnight on the most important day, Virgil passed away. I was fortunate to be one of the few that had seen him in his final days. He was colorless, his skin was deteriorating and he was in a lot of pain. I tried to push the blue light through him instead of extract the black because there was just too much to remove, the damage had already been done this was his will.
When I viewed the casket, Virgil was actually grinning [he really was]. He has no more pain, suffering, drama, debt, or illness. And he is with the rest of his family. Now that is truly a place called home. The next time the packers and the bears play Grandpa you can bet I’ll set a bowl of munchies out for you. Say hello to Victor for me and tell him I miss him.
